2023 Annual CPS Rising Stars Workshop Trip Report

SIGBED was proud to sponsor the Second Annual CPS Rising Stars Workshop hosted by the University of Virginia on May 31, 2023. Executive Committee member, Wanli Chang, represented SIGBED and delivered a welcome talk.

Thirty-four Rising Stars were selected from a competitive applicant pool of 117. The workshop also exceeded its aim to increase representation and diversity in CPS with over 70% of the Rising Stars being women or from other underrepresented groups. The CPS Rising Stars Workshop provided Ph.D. student and postdocs critical information to be successful in the next steps of their career, including insight into the academic search process, obtaining research grants, and establishing research groups and collaborations. The workshop also provided an opportunity to create connections and networks with other rising leaders in CPS which they will be able to leverage in their future research and careers.

Workshop information: The 2023 CPS Rising Stars Workshop was held at the University of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA) in late spring 2023. This workshop aimed to identify and mentor outstanding Ph.D. students and postdocs who are interested in pursuing academic careers in Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) related areas. This workshop also aims to increase representation and diversity in CPS, especially encouraging women, underrepresented minorities, and persons with disabilities to apply.
